Core
Competencies for Massachusetts School-Age Practitioners
The Core Competencies outline the knowledge and skills school-age
practitioners need in order to provide high-quality services
to children, youth, and families. The Competencies were developed
in response to documented research that concludes that qualified,
well-trained, and stable staff members are the key to quality
school-age programs. Competencies begin to address the questions,
"What makes a provider qualified; what constitutes good
training; and what characteristics of a program and its staff
contribute to stable, quality programming?" Answering
these questions is key to the development of individuals and
programs, but also to the professional development of the
field.
